There's a Salishan moment for everyone

A Momentous Surprise

A Momentous Surprise

I grew up in Southern California, and my happiest memory was the day our father surprised me and my two older brothers with an unexpected visit to Disneyland. Once I had children of my own, I wanted to do something similarly special for them. One day we bundled our three kids into the car and told them we were going for a drive. We headed out to a deer farm to see the animals, visited the Brigittine Monastery to sample some fudge, and had lunch next to an art gallery. Everyone had a wonderful time and it seemed like a complete outing. We got back in the car to ostensibly head home, but the kids were too young to notice we continued to head west. We told them we were just about home as we turned up the driveway into the beautiful Salishan resort. We exclaimed “Oh – I guess we made a wrong turn! Oh well – maybe we should just spend the weekend here then .” Our kids screamed with delight, and we had a fabulous time. And I was ecstatic, because I had recreated the childhood memory that meant so much to me.
