It’s been a while since my last post and so I thought I would share this picture of one of our upcoming weddings. This is Sadie Sears and Drew Buring. Sadie is planning her wedding here at Salishan and she also has worked at our Spa for the past 6 years. Her family is friends with the owners of the Bijou Theater in Lincoln City and they came up with this cute idea for her “Save the Date” cards. It’s such a cute idea, I just had to share!

Each year in December Salishan gives the local community “The Gift of Music”. This past December 16th, 2012 Siletz Bay Music Festival co-sponsored the event with us and what a wonderful event it was.

Rocky Blumhagen, lyric baritone, sang several Christmas songs including “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year”, “I’ll Be Home for Christmas”, “I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas”, and other holiday standards. Sarah Barten and Kristina Burbank sang “Winter Wonderland”, “Ave Maria”, and “O Holy Night”. Sue Parks-Hilden performed a reading of “Becky’s Christmas Dream” by Louisa May Alcott that many of the local children really enjoyed. Elizabeth Rankin played “Basque Carol”, “Canzone de Zampoquari/ Carol of the Bagpipes”, and “Star of the East/Hail the Blest Morn” on the harp. The Gift Goes On Choir was made up of local students singing “Santa Claus is Coming to Town”, “Jingle Bells”, and “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer” led by Eric Simpson on the piano.

The concert concluded with a sing-a-long and a special group performance by “The Gift Goes On” followed by refreshments provided by Salishan.

A cash donation or non-perishable food was requested for entry to continue the giving. Proceeds were donated to the Lincoln City Food Pantry.

Salishan was proud to host the 17th Annual North Lincoln Hospital Foundation Charity Golf Scramble on August 20th. Each year, the NLH Foundation sponsors a golf tournament to encourage golf enthusiasts to play for a cause while enjoying the camaraderie of the day’s events. Recognizing the need for ongoing support of specialized services in a child’s formative years, the money raised this year – more than $30,000! – will support the Samaritan North Lincoln Hospital’s Early Learning Center.

Come find out why Conde Nast Traveller magazine voted The Spa at Salishan one of the top dozen spas in the nation. The staff are not only expert at providing an unforgettable spa experience, they’ve hand selected products you can enjoy anytime. Their first recommendation: Gel Cleanser from Yonka. The Gel Cleanser is free of sodium laureate sulfates, which strips the acid mantel – none of the spa’s products contain these harmful ingredients. The spa staff are very specific about what’s used on guests, and they’re looking forward to pampering you with a massage, body treatment, facial and a host of unique spa services. More spa tips to come…

The Lincoln City Sandcastle contest was held last weekend and it caters to the casual builder. Every year, families already in Lincoln City on vacation, or others just passing through, learn of the event up to the last minute and stop over at the dock behind Mo’s Restaurant to register.
This year, there were nine categories in which builders could compete – more than ever before! The nine Sandcastle Contest categories are:
• Dog
• Chowderhead
• Mermaid
• Sandcastle
• Tiki
• Family Group
• Individual
• Couples
• Kids Under 10 (first, second and third places)

Make sure to mark your calendar for next year (usually the first Saturday in August, depending on the tide) and come on down and show us what you’ve got for sand-art skill… all skill levels accepted!
Or maybe you just like to watch…that’s welcomed also!

And what a beautiful weekend it is! The weather is HOT! (something we are not accustomed to on the coast) and there is no rain! In years past the Relay was over Father’s Day weekend in June and it would usually rain, but the committee changed it this year and it looks like they picked a winning weekend!

Salishan has a team, the Salishan All Stars. The theme this year is Sports so our baton is decorated with a putter. The event started today at noon and will go until Sunday morning at 8am. If you would like to beat the heat in Portland, come on down and join us! We can always use more team members!

There are red huckleberries, blackberries, black raspberries (shown in picture), salmon berries, black huckleberries, wild strawberries, salal berries and thimble berries. It makes for a very yummy walk! Come join us!
